Business Development Manager
Hall Render, a national health care-focused law and advisory services Firm, seeks an experienced Business Development Manager. This position leads planning, management and implementation of Firm-sponsored events that support and magnify our Firm’s commitment to the health care sector — expressed in our tagline, “Health Care Uninterrupted.” In addition to overseeing Firm-sponsored events, and to providing direction for and support of the Firm’s internal events, the Business Development Manager provides insight, guidance and support for development and implementation of Practice Group-level and individual attorney / advisor business development and lead generation plans. This role requires an accomplished professional with 5-8 years of experience in event management and business development in the professional services sector, with preference given to experience in medium to large law firms.

Key Responsibilities:
- Event Strategy, Planning and Implementation (60%)
- Develop, implement, and refine the Firm’s sponsored event strategy to enhance our health care-focused mission – including helping to structure and support events to maximize Firm potential to make and benefit from high-potential connections, as well review and enhancement of the Firm’s existing sponsored event playbooks and processes.
- Consider and factor annual overall and per-event budget; project/estimate ROI; consider and manage the strategic distribution of events per each of five practice groups; consider Firm contributors and other resources relevant to each event.
- Integrate and leverage approximately 6 pay-to-play events within the Firm’s broader business development initiatives.
- Attend and manage on-the-ground tactical elements of Firm-sponsored events, as necessary.
- Practice Group / Service Line / Individual Practitioner Business Development Management (40%)
- Learn and remain current with the specialties, unique selling propositions and differentiating benefits of each of the Firm’s five practice groups; collaborate with practice group leaders and service line organizers as well as individual attorneys and advisors, and the Firm’s BD/Marketing professionals, to develop and implement impactful and relevant client cultivation, retention and acquisition strategies.
- Initiate and coordinate creation and implementation of practice-group-level, service line-specific and individual practitioner business development plans, including guidance and support for development of materials that:
- emphasize Firm and individual practitioner thought leadership
- enable effective, differentiating promotion of practice groups and individual practitioners
- result in differentiating content development, deployment and program analysis
Required Qualifications & Traits:
- Experience: Minimum five to eight years of demonstrable business development and event management experience in the professional services sector, ideally in medium to large US law firms.
- Education: At minimum, BA or BS in business administration, marketing or related field.
- Skills: Business acumen, organizational and project management skills, with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple high-profile initiatives.
- Strategic Focus: Demonstrated ability to connect practice group, individual practitioner and event strategies to broader enterprise positioning and business goals — and capacity to effectively measure and evaluate ROI.
- Communication: Executive presence; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable engaging with a range of professionals who are highly accomplished and technically focused, including senior Firm leadership and external agency and event management partners.
- Travel: Ability to travel to and provide on-site support for assigned events, as needed.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with outstanding organizational skills, committed to excellence in the workplace.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to effectively delegate tasks to team members, external partners, attorneys and advisors as needed.
- Proactive engagement with a variety of individuals at all levels in the Firm.
- Come prepared with research/background and questions to which you need answers.
- Be an insatiably curious and active listener.

Work Location: Hybrid schedule with office presence at one of Hall Render’s larger office locations (Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Troy), however, location and hybrid schedule is flexible.
