IT Systems Engineer

Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman, P.C., a national law firm focused exclusively on matters specific to health care organizations, seeks an experienced IT Systems Engineer to maintain our enterprise IT infrastructure. Reporting to the Director of IT Systems and Security, you will ensure system reliability, security, and performance across on-premises and cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and manage all aspects of server and cloud infrastructure with a focus on email security and deliverability.
  • Administer Active Directory/Entra ID, Exchange Online, networking and firewalls, telephony (Cisco/Teams) VMware/Hyper-V, and backup/disaster recovery systems.
  • Implement security practices, including identity and access management, endpoint protection, patches, and HIPAA compliance.
  • Support application deployments, troubleshoot systems issues, and provide Tier III support escalation. Includes working with vendor support, as needed.
  • Document systems to ensure continuity and design automation for system administration tasks.

Requirements, Experience & Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or certifications (e.g., AZ-104, MS-100/101, Security+) required.
  • 3+ years managing Windows Server (2016+), AD/Entra ID, and Exchange required.
  • Proficiency in email flow/security, Microsoft 365, and VMware or Hyper-V required; proficiency in backup/disaster recovery tools or networking/firewalls is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills required. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Intune, Defender XDR, Copilot, SQL Server, or NetDocuments is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field is a plus.
  • Exposure to compliance frameworks such as HIPAA or SOC2 is a plus.

Schedule:

  • 8-hour day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • After hours and extra hours, as needed
  • On-call rotation

Travel requirement:

  • As required to ensure IT systems availability at all locations

Work Location: Flexible hybrid work schedule with in-office days in Indianapolis.
