Senior Conflicts Analyst
The Senior Conflicts Analyst is part of a team that processes all conflict check requests at the firm, including those relating to prospective clients and matters, new clients and matters, clients and matters relating to lateral candidates. The Senior Conflicts Analyst is a key member of the Office of General Counsel, responsible for conducting high-level conflicts analysis, supporting lateral attorney onboarding, and ensuring compliance with ethical and legal obligations. This role requires advanced research and analytical skills, deep knowledge of legal ethics, and the ability to interpret complex organizational relationships and legal data. The Senior Conflicts Analyst serves as a subject matter expert and resource for junior analysts and attorneys, and plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the firm’s risk management systems. The Senior Conflicts Analyst is responsible for conducting in-depth conflict of interest research, analyzing findings, and advising attorneys on potential conflicts. Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough research using various tools, including conflicts databases and external sources, to identify potential conflicts of interest for new clients, lateral hires, and existing matters.
- Analyze conflict search results, summarize findings, and prepare reports for attorneys and other stakeholders.
- Analyze and map complex client relationships, including subsidiaries, affiliates, and parent companies, to ensure accurate conflicts clearance.
- Assist in resolving identified conflicts, which may include declining representation, implementing screening procedures, or seeking client waivers.
- Ensure compliance with the firm’s policies and the Rules of Professional Conduct regarding conflicts of interest.
- Monitor and interpret jurisdiction-specific rules regarding conflicts, confidentiality, and client file retention.
- Communicate effectively with attorneys, staff, and clients regarding potential conflicts, resolution strategies, and ethical considerations.
- Will be responsible for training and mentoring junior conflicts specialists or clerks.
- Assist in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the firm’s conflicts database.
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of ethical walls to prevent the sharing of confidential client information.
- Review new matter intake requests for accuracy and completeness, ensuring that all necessary information is collected.
Requirements, Education and Qualifications
- High school diploma required.
- Requires 5+ years of experience in a law firm conflicts department or a related legal environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for identifying and resolving conflicts.
- Excellent communication, both written and verbal, is crucial for interacting with attorneys and clients.
- Proficiency in using conflicts databases and other legal research tools is required.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy are necessary for conducting thorough conflict research.
- A strong understanding of the rules of professional conduct and ethical principles is essential.
- Strong organizational and time management skills are needed to handle multiple requests and deadlines.
- Computer experience including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Ability to take ownership and work independently to resolve issues.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity and experience with 3E and Intapp required.
- Experience implementing and optimizing conflicts and new business systems, a plus.
