- Tenet Health has agreed to sell 70% of its ownership interest in five hospitals and their affiliated physician groups in Birmingham, Alabama to Orlando Health for $910M.
- Community Health Systems (“CHS”) reaffirmed its plan to sell $1B worth of hospitals in the near future. Earlier this year, CHS announced its plan to sell hospitals in order to focus on its core markets, fund future acquisitions and manage its debt obligations.
- Ascension announced plans to grow its ambulatory surgery center (“ASC”) footprint over the next few years. Ascension has added 21 ASCs in the past three years and plans to add about 80 more ASCs in the near future.
- Bon Secours Mercy Health is also executing an ASC strategy. The health system partnered with Compass Surgical Partners to build more than 30 ASCs in Kentucky, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, New York and Florida. Compass has built a network of 250 ASCs over the past 30 years.

- In 2023, numerous health care construction projects were completed according to Modern Healthcare’s 2024 Design and Construction Survey. Of the projects completed, 853 were inpatient hospital projects, 76 were inpatient rehab hospital projects, 80 were behavioral health projects, 38 were freestanding EDs, 50 were long-term care facilities and 54 were urgent care clinics. New projects being considered by health systems include ASCs, MOBs and cancer centers.
- The rise of Intuitive Health’s urgent care and emergency department model was featured in a recent article published by KFF Health News. Intuitive Health has partnered with more than a dozen health systems in ten states to roll out its model.
- Mercy Health received the necessary approvals for a new $650M hospital campus in Wentzville, Missouri (near St. Louis).
- Novant Health has purchased 11 acres in Greenville, South Carolina to expand access to care in that market.
- White Plains Hospital (NY) announced plans to build a new 10-story hospital tower housing a new emergency department and hundreds of private patient rooms.
