The Board’s and the Executive Team’s Role in Compliance

Synopsis:
The federal government continues to expand its enforcement activities targeting health care providers. Having an effective compliance program is the best way for providers to keep the government away or at least mitigate potential compliance risks to organization.
This presentation will explore important aspects of compliance and the impact on the organization. This session is designed to be a “refresher” course for Hospital leaders in which we will discuss the importance of the Board’s, the Compliance Committee’s and Senior Management’s commitment to compliance. Discussion will focus on issues such as the Board’s duty of care and best practices, legal compliance, and effective governance. We will also discuss key roles and responsibilities of the Compliance Committee with particular attention to the Chief Compliance Officer’s reporting relationships and the make-up of the Compliance Committee. We will include a brief overview of the key fraud and abuse laws that create risk for the organization. Lastly, we will discuss key elements of an effective compliance program and provide tips to measure compliance.
