Peter Kim – Vice President and Senior Corporate Counsel at Providence St. Joseph Health

Peter Kim is Vice President, Senior Corporate Counsel at Providence St. Joseph Health where he serves as counsel for Privacy, Information Technology/Services, and Clinical Research.  Peter resides just outside Seattle, Washington and is a proud alumnus of the University of Washington.

Jeff Short – Hall Render Attorney

With over 30 years of experience, Jeff Short is a shareholder at Hall Render representing the health care industry in matters involving innovation, technology, data, privacy and security. Advising health care organizations of all sizes across the country, these representations have involved strategic relationships, equity and royalty arrangements, procurement and regulatory compliance and investigations. In these representations, Jeff assists clients with issues related to implementing, managing and interconnecting HIT, as well as the strategic use of HIT. Jeff’s work also encompasses all issues related to electronic health records systems (EHRs), including procurement, privacy and security issues, implementation issues and disputes, as well as extending use of EHRs to other community providers through EHR donation programs. In addition, he has experience assisting clients with the outsourcing of both HIT and non-clinical business services. Given the increasing regulatory environment of HIT, Jeff also advises clients on the effects on transactions, including the impact of Information Blocking, HIPAA, HITECH, Promoting Interoperability/Meaningful Use, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute and related state laws.

Melissa Markey – Hall Render Attorney

Melissa Markey, CISSP, co-leads the Hall Render Life Sciences team and focuses her practice on FDA regulatory compliance, research misconduct, human subject research and technology law, including data privacy and security, medical device security, mobile medical applications and consumer-facing health care, electronic health records and data rights management, as well as emergency legal preparedness, patient care issues, the clinician-technology interface and compliance. She is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (“CISSP”) and is a member of the Hall Render data breach response team. She is an author and national speaker on topics in cybersecurity and privacy, mobile medical devices, FDA law, research misconduct and privacy and security issues in research, emerging diseases and emergency preparedness and response law. Melissa served two terms as a Board member for the American Health Law Association, is a Fellow of AHLA and is licensed in Michigan, Texas, Colorado and Utah. Melissa is also a licensed health care provider.
