On September 27, 2012 CMS issued an advance copy of the State Operations Manual (“SOM”) revisions to Appendix P of the SOM which addresses Long Term Care Facility survey protocol. The SOM guidance also makes changes to various survey forms resulting from the new quality measures reports.
More specifically, the SOM changes reflect changes for the:
1. Minimum Data Set (“MDS);
2. New Quality Measures Reports;
3. Various revised CMS survey forms; and,
4. Sampling and receiving antipsychoitc medications.
Surveyors have been instructed to use the revisied SOM beginning no later than December 12, 2012. The SOM guidance also comes with a very useful Power Point slides that provide an excellent overview of the SOM changes.
