Hall Render is pleased to congratulate Chairman of the Firm Bill Thompson on receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health Alumni Association.
Thompson earned his Masters of Health Administration from the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI and his law degree from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Upon graduating from law school, he joined Hall Render as an associate and the 11th lawyer in the Firm. Thompson has dedicated his career to the field of public health, serving in roles within the administration of hospitals and as one of the nation’s most trusted health lawyers.
Thompson was honored alongside Dr. Jen Walthall at the school’s annual Night of Gratitude on March 31. Founding Dean Paul Halverson said, “Those who spend time teaching, mentoring and encouraging our students make a difference for far longer than the semester or two they spend with the student. They influence the life of each student and change the trajectory of their career. We see that in the early successes of Dr. Jen Walthall, our Early Careerist Award winner, and the lifetime of achievement of Bill Thompson, our Distinguished Alumni Award winner. We couldn’t be more proud of these two exceptional alumni or more grateful to those who have supported them in their efforts to improve the health of their communities.”
The Distinguished Alumni Award aims to recognize alumni for their significant contributions to their field, their community and the promotion of the mission of the Fairbanks School of Public Health.
Before being named Chairman of the Firm, Thompson served as the Firm’s Managing Partner for ten years. He concentrates his practice on financial relationships among a wide array of health care providers, including hospitals, physicians, health systems, children’s hospitals and academic medical centers. Thompson has been named in Best Lawyers in America under the Health Care Section for more than ten years running and is also listed in Super Lawyers. He was named by Nightingale’s Healthcare News as one of the top 10 physician lawyers in the country. Thompson is a counselor and confidant of hospital CEOs, Board Chairs and physician leaders across the country.
