- The National Association of Realtors (NAR) has agreed to pay $418M to settle claims that it inflated real estate commissions. Under the settlement, NAR will change its rules to 1) no longer require agents to subscribe to multiple listing services (MLS); 2) prohibit selling agents from posting commissions they will pay to buyer agents on MLS sites; and 3) require buyer agents to enter into written agreements with their clients. If approved by the court, some predict the settlement may result in buyer agents getting paid by their clients as opposed to the selling agent.
- A Minnesota bill, if passed, would prohibit private equity firms and real estate investment trusts from acquiring or increasing their ownership interests in health care companies on or after August 1, 2024.
- The Tennessee Hospital Association, along with a group of 16 Tennessee hospitals, announced their opposition to the Certificate of Need (CON) reform that a group of lawmakers is proposing. The groups argue that the proposed CON changes are too broad and could result in hospitals reducing services and potentially closing their doors.
- Gallup released its World Happiness Report for 2024. The happiest countries in the world are 1) Finland; 2) Denmark; 3) Iceland; 4) Sweden; and 5) Israel. The U.S. ranked number 23 on the list.

- The outlook for the senior housing industry is looking up according to a new survey from the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing. 79% of survey respondents said they are extremely positive or somewhat positive about the outlook for the seniors housing industry, while 16% were neutral and 4% had a negative outlook.
- Ohio State University is planning to start construction this spring on a $183M outpatient campus in Powell, Ohio. The project will include a two-story health center and a five-story medical outpatient building.
- Kaiser has filed plans to open a new hospital campus in Sacramento, California. The project would include a 657,000 sf hospital with 310 beds and a 171,500 sf medical outpatient building located in the Railyards area.
- Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai has opened an office in Singapore to provide patient care coordination and to develop strategic collaborations across Southeast Asia. Cedars already has a presence in Mexico City and Shanghai and is planning offices in Ecuador and Qatar.
- The Advisory Board published a new summary of housing projects sponsored by hospital systems and payers. The projects allow nonprofit hospital systems to satisfy community benefit requirements, while also addressing public health needs.
