About Rene

Rene Larkin counsels health care clients on a wide variety of transactional and governance matters and understands the aspects of health care that can make these matters unique from other industries. Rene has in-depth experience in all real property issues, including health care lease arrangements, purchase and sale of real property and acquisitions and dispositions of health care and medical facilities. Rene also advises on clients on health care transactions, assisting with acquisitions and mergers, physician alignment and physician contracting as well as governance, which includes advising boards on health care and governance issues.

Typically working with clients from large-sized health systems to single-hospital medical centers and small, rural county hospitals, Rene enjoys strategizing with clients to resolve a myriad of transactional matters for the benefit of her clients. Rene aided in the development of a national leasing program for a large health care provider, served as lead on real estate due diligence for a $1.2 billion hospital system merger, completed a number of physician practice acquisitions and worked closely with governing boards to achieve thoughtful solutions on challenging issues.

Rene is an active member of the American Health Law Association and recently completed a term as vice chair of the association’s Real Estate Affinity Group. Rene serves as a board member for a non-profit that serves women and men who find themselves in unplanned and difficult situations.

In her free time, Rene loves to travel all over the world with her husband and four kids and enjoys making good food.

Representative Experience

  • Buyer’s counsel for a county hospital in the purchase of a physician practice, ambulatory surgery center and medical office building.
  • Partner with local counsel, serving as health care counsel to a multi-campus critical access hospital, advising on board governance matters, conditions of participation, state licensing, consent forms and physician arrangements.
  • Represent critical access hospital in rural eastern plains of Colorado, advising on potential acquisition of senior living facility, board governance, county partnership and mobile clinic program.
  • Serve as outside general counsel to sole community hospital, advising on all matters, including board matters, physician strategy and affiliations, provider based clinic strategy, vendor agreements, compliance matters and human resource matters.
  • Represent critical access hospital in Montana advising board and executive team on compliance matters, governance matters and executive transition.
