Hall Render is a national Health Law Firm that offers summer associates the opportunity to work with more than 160 attorneys in eight offices across five practice groups and more than 20 service lines.

Summer Associate Program

Hall Render hires first- and second-year law students with outstanding academic credentials, maturity, and motivation for its Summer Associate Program in our various office locations each year. The Firm is committed to developing summer associates through hands-on client work and active mentorship, as well as giving summer associates a realistic look at what associate life is like at the Firm.

Law students are given summer associate offers by firm location. However, summer associates will have the opportunity to work with attorneys in each office and across all five practice groups: Health Economics, Health Human Resources, Health Operations, Health Regulatory and Health Transactions. Our summer associates routinely help attorneys and clients in the healthcare industry with business transactions, joint ventures, healthcare regulatory issues, litigation, health information systems, compliance, licensing, tax, antitrust, managed care, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, medical staff relations, tax-exempt financing, patient care, HIPAA, real estate and construction, and labor and employment issues.

Hall Render offers competitive pay of $2,785 - $3,365 per week, depending on geographic location.

Mentorship and Evaluations

Summer associates are given an assigned mentor at the beginning of the summer. In addition to informal mentorship relationships that may be formed throughout the summer, the assigned summer associate mentor is intended to guide the summer associate throughout the summer experience, serve as a sounding board, answer questions, and help integrate the summer associate into the Firm and its culture.

Each summer associate is informally evaluated on a continual basis throughout the summer by attorneys that assign projects. In addition, summer associates are evaluated on a more formal basis at the midway point and end of the summer.

Beyond the Summer Associate Program

Hall Render has a strong history of hiring entry-level associates from the Summer Associate Program; and many shareholders were former summer associates or law clerks for the firm.

Associates join a practice group and are assigned an associate mentor as well as a shareholder mentor when they join the Firm. Our mentor program is structured to partner each associate with a shareholder who will help them in all aspects of their legal career, including technical skills, business development, and general law firm process. Additionally, associates receive a more senior associate mentor who serves as a general sounding board and guide as the new associate gets acclimated to Firm life and begins to build a practice at Hall Render.

The Firm, with its 1750 billable hour requirement, recognizes the contribution of its associates through competitive raises and bonuses. Additionally, the Firm offers many benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and life and disability insurance, open/flexible vacation policy, 401(k) plan and profit sharing, parental leave, CLE allowance, and cell phone.

Hall Render has two tiers of equity partnership in the firm – Common Shareholder and Voting Shareholder. For associates on partnership track that start with the Firm out of law school, it generally takes 6-7 years to progress to Common Shareholder. Voting Shareholder advancement generally happens after 2-3 years as a Common Shareholder.

“I was fortunate enough to spend both my 1L and 2L summers at Hall Render and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity. Being able to learn about health law and make connections in the firm while I was in law school made transitioning to a full-time attorney much easier. Not only did I gain professional experience from my time as a Summer Associate, but I was also able to get to know my colleagues on a personal level which made for easy integration into the firm and kickstarted my career.”
