Employment Law 101: How to Manage Your Personnel Issues Without Stepping in It!

The lecture is designed for practice administrators that have 1 to 3 years of experience. Background information is provided on the concept of “employment at will” and what it means for orthopaedic practices. The exceptions to employment at will are discussed in depth, as are the variety of federal laws that protect the workforce. Finally, the concept of “just cause” is explained so that participants will understand how to get to “just cause” for termination in any employment situation.
Social Media in the Workplace: Defining the Parameters of Employer Curtailment of Employee Social Media Activity

This entertaining program addresses three primary areas of concern:
(1) using social media to investigate employee and potential employees; (2) disciplining current employees for questionable social media content; and (3) promulgating and enforcing a lawful social media policy in the wake of recent decisions from the National Labor Relations Board.
