Synopsis:
This presentation provides a brief history of health care sponsored, provided or financed by the U.S. government. It reviews and explores the political, fiscal, organizational and practical effects of these policies as a driver and modifier of patient and provider behavior. It discusses the practical effects of policy implementation and explores the various facets of the ACA and the effect of the program on patients, providers, states and politicians.
This presentation:
- Provides participants with a more detailed understanding of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
- Permits participants to appreciate the direct and subtle policy intentions and objectives of the ACA.
- Allows participants to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the ACA and to be aware of possible or even likely future amendments to the Act.
- Details the not inconsiderable difference between the ACA as passed and as implemented.
- Gives the participants a brief understanding of the effect of the Supreme Court decision in National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius, 567 US __ (2012) on the ACA.
- Outlines the political implications of the ACA.
