Tax Talk: Navigating Scrutiny of the Community Benefit Standard for Tax-Exempt Hospitals
Event: Tax Talk: Navigating Scrutiny of the Community Benefit Standard for Tax-Exempt Hospitals
[02/11/2025 - 1:00 PM]
Synopsis:
While much has changed in Washington, D.C. this year, scrutiny continues to intensify on tax-exempt hospitals. Members of Congress and the IRS are raising questions about whether the community benefit standard should remain in effect, be enhanced or be replaced. Meanwhile, state legislatures and officials across the country continue their focus on tax exemption requirements for health care organizations.
During this webinar, Hall Render’s tax and tax exemption attorneys will clarify the current climate and provide hospitals with practical guidance for protecting their tax-exempt status. Topics include:
- Ongoing scrutiny from both houses of Congress and the prospects for legislative action;
- Heightened IRS attention, including the FY 2025 program letter, hospital audits and reviews of community benefit and financial ability standards;
- The new administration’s priorities within the tax-exempt sector;
- IRS and other agency actions in the post-Chevron landscape; and
- Significant state-level actions and trends.
