We, Them and Us: Perspectives on 2018’s Top Five Regulatory Compliance Challenges for Public, Rural, Safety Net and Teaching Hospitals
[05/09/2018]
Synopsis:
There are many regulatory compliance challenges that are common among all types of hospitals. There are also some challenges that are different or unique for hospitals that serve patient populations and offer services that would otherwise be considered risky and/or unprofitable. Our panelists will give perspectives on the top five legal and regulatory compliance challenges for the many rural, academic, public and safety net hospitals that serve otherwise unmet needs. The discussion will include considerations related to predictable or sustained operating losses, difficulties recruiting and keeping providers, addressing needs of special patient populations that may vary by race, gender, ethnicity, diagnosis or socioeconomic status, and the challenges of marrying economic realities and fiduciary obligations with ideals or missions that are charitable or focused on the public good.
Speaker(s): Ritu Kaur Cooper (Hall Render); Vonne Jacobs (Duke University Office of Counsel); Nicole Almiro (University of Illinois at Chicago)
