This session will review and highlight the immigration hurdles created by the COVID-19 pandemic and the direct impact on foreign physician (as well as other health care professionals) recruitment and sponsorship and the solutions to consider going forward. The session will also address hot topics in health care employment law, including a high-level look at the current and trending issues that plague health care employers.

Meet the Speakers

Michael Kim – Hall Render Attorney

Michael Kim leads the firm’s immigration practice and focuses entirely on business immigration matters. He routinely handles a wide-range of employment-based immigration matters for hospitals, health care entities, physician practice groups, corporations, businesses and individuals across the United States including:

  • J-1 Waivers of the 2 year Foreign Residency Requirement
  • H-1B petitions (Initial, Extension, Change of Status and transfers)
  • P-1 Petitions for Professional Athletes
  • Trade NAFTA Work Authorization

Mary Kate Liffrig – Hall Render Attorney

Mary Kate Liffrig focuses her practice in the area of labor and employment law, with an emphasis on counseling employers through all areas of the employment relationship. Providing niche health care knowledge and experience, Mary Kate partners with her clients as they navigate their day-to-day employment-related challenges. Mary Kate counsels clients on a wide variety of employment law issues, such as hiring and disciplinary matters, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, wage and hour issues, handbook and policy review/creation and employment contract drafting and negotiations. In her free time, Mary Kate enjoys spending time with her two sons, hiking and reading.
