- VMG published its 2025 Health Care M&A Report. Key takeaways: 1) Health systems are focused on portfolio optimization and improving operating margins; 2) the use of AI is a key strategy being employed by health systems to improve financial performance; and 3) health systems are creating joint ventures with ancillary providers (outpatient, behavioral health and post-acute) to create more comprehensive care models.
- A new health care construction report identified the following trends: 1) contractors are getting involved earlier on new projects in an effort to help manage project budgets, schedules and revenue goals; 2) the use of sustainable materials is becoming more common, but articulating the financial benefits can be more challenging; and 3) safeguarding patient data is increasingly challenging as providers introduce more technology into new projects.
- North Carolina legislators have introduced two bills that, if passed, would repeal the state’s certificate of need (“CON”) law. A lawsuit is also pending in North Carolina that questions the constitutionality of the state’s CON law. In 2023, North Carolina made several changes to its CON law to make it easier to open new behavioral health care and chemical dependency facilities and to relax other CON requirements.
- Cleveland Clinic announced plans to develop a new hospital with Vingroup in Vietnam. This project is part of the Cleveland Clinic’s mission to bring care to those around the world.

- Duke Health and Novant Health are planning a new $225M hospital in Mebane, NC, near a new 80-acre mixed-use development.
- Cone Health announced plans to build a new $275M hospital in Mebane, NC, next to its outpatient campus in the community. Mebane is one of the fastest-growing cities in the Triad.
- Tampa General is planning a 400-bed hospital in Lecanto, FL. The project will be completed in two phases, each including 120K sf of medical outpatient buildings.
- Kedren Health (an FQHC in Los Angeles, CA) announced plans to develop an innovative children’s behavioral health campus that could serve as a national model for children’s behavioral health. The $145M project will include an inpatient facility, residential program, crisis stabilization unit, outpatient program and primary care program.
- Sila Realty Trust has acquired an inpatient rehab facility (“IRF”) in Dover, DE, that is operated by a joint venture between Post Acute Medical and Bayhealth Medical Center. Sila continues to be one of the most active buyers of IRFs.
