Weekly Hospital Real Estate Briefing: UPMC and GoHealth Announce 81 Urgent Care Centers I Baptist Health Expands in South Florida | NC Supreme Court Halts Ruling on New Hospital

  1. UPMC and GoHealth have announced the opening of 81 urgent care centers, including 33 in the Pittsburgh area. The primary purpose of these centers is to enable patients to receive care for non-life-threatening conditions, but they can serve as an initial access point for those with more serious conditions.
  2. Novant Health is planning to more than double the system’s ambulatory surgery center portfolio, targeting up to 50 ASCs within the next three to five years. The expansion is part of a broader shift toward outpatient care, with investments in cost-effective settings like imaging centers, infusion sites and care-at-home programs.
  3. The Tennessee Health Facilities Commission has approved Certificates of Need for two new hospitals in Clarksville, TN. TriStar is set to build a 68-bed, $286M facility, while Ascension is set to build a 44-bed, $148.5M hospital.
  4. The North Carolina Supreme Court has granted Mission Health’s request to halt state approval of AdventHealth’s proposed hospital in Weaverville. The dispute reflects a broader battle over health care expansion and market control in Western North Carolina.

  6. Baptist Health (FL) closed over $40M in real estate deals in South Florida. The transactions include a medical office building in Boynton Beach and a 26-acre site in Sunrise. The Boynton Beach property will support expanded surgical and clinical services, while plans for the Sunrise site include a 100-bed hospital that could open in 2028.
  7. Martha’s Vineyard Hospital (MA) has reached its $30M fundraising goal to support a new workforce housing project in Edgartown. The development includes a 48-unit apartment complex, duplexes and townhouses totaling more than 70 bedrooms. The hospital has awarded units to 35 eligible employees.
  8. Nantucket Cottage Hospital (MA) is planning a $50M capital campaign to build employee housing amid rising island housing costs. The hospital plans to break ground on the project in 2026.
  9. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist has opened its new $426M critical care tower in Winston-Salem, NC. The seven-story, 327,000-sf facility includes 28 operating rooms, 56 ICU beds, advanced imaging technologies and a new adult emergency department.
  10. Prisma Health will soon begin a $350M expansion of Greer Memorial Hospital in Greer, SC. The project will double patient bed capacity and include a medical park, new pediatric and cardiovascular units, an expanded emergency department and additional specialty care offices.
