- Williamson Health’s (Franklin, TN) Board of Trustees has voted to sell the county-owned health system to Ascension. The total value of the deal is over $950M, including a $700M purchase price and over $250M in commitments for facility improvements, electronic health records and other strategic projects. The deal remains subject to approval by the Williamson County Commissioners.
- Bridgepoint Group will acquire the operations of Kayne Anderson Real Estate for $1.4B, with the deal expected to close by the end of 2026. Kayne Anderson has $22B in real estate assets under management, including a large number of on-campus and off-campus medical outpatient buildings (“MOBs”).
- Hospitals and health systems have continued increasing their share of MOB transaction activity with $900M (23% of total market) in MOBs acquired thus far in 2026. REITs and private investors have been the biggest sellers of MOBs to hospitals and health systems in 2026.
- AdventHealth, Mission Health, Novant Health and UNC Health West are competing to add 92 new acute care hospital beds in Buncombe County, NC, with each system submitting applications for a certificate of need. This marks the second time in the past year that the four applicants will compete for new acute care beds in Buncombe County.
- The VA signed a lease to build a new multispecialty clinic for acupuncture and chiropractic in Cocoa, FL. Supporting the VA Orlando Healthcare system, the facility is expected to open in spring 2027.
- Health systems are reversing the legacy trend of oversized hospital campuses and moving to organize buildings into an integrated portfolio. These efforts include shrinking acute-care footprints, building outpatient hubs closer to where patients live and introducing health care in mixed-use developments.
- Mercy Health is pursuing a long-term strategy centered on value-based care, operational efficiency and technology rather than relying on higher reimbursement rates, according to a recent profile of CEO Steve Mackin. Real estate optimization plays a direct role in this strategy, including virtual care, same-day outpatient facilities and aggressively managing chronic disease to cut down on expensive ED admissions.
- Robust population inflows to Sun Belt states are shifting outpatient health care demand. Health care providers and developers have responded by accelerating development in markets where population growth has created stable, long-term demand for space, including multi-specialty outpatient facilities and networks of primary, urgent care and specialty facilities.
- Emory Healthcare expanded its footprint at Northlake Mall in Atlanta, GA, following acquisition of the mall by The Centurion Foundation. Emory now has more than 550,000 sf of space in the mall, which will be used for both clinical and administrative operations.
- The Orlando Health Watson Clinic Lakeland Highlands Hospital (FL) recently opened to patients. The $500M, 550,000-sf hospital sits on 80 acres and represents the first new hospital in Lakeland in more than a century.
