- Alice L. Walton Foundation and Mercy have broken ground on AWSOM, a 120-acre health care campus in Bentonville, AR. The specialty care and whole-health destination will include cardiac services in partnership with Cleveland Clinic, as well as cancer, orthopedic and gastroenterology programs designed to serve patients across multiple states.
- Sutter Health will use proceeds from a $1.41B bond issuance to fund hospital expansions, outpatient centers and other capital projects across Northern California. Planned investments include expanding its women’s and children’s center, completing an orthopedics and sports medicine complex, building an ambulatory campus and expanding several hospital projects.
- University of Iowa Health Care has scrapped plans for a proposed $2B inpatient tower in Iowa City, IA. Instead, leaders are pursuing a scaled-back approach that involves expanding and renovating existing hospital space. The change in course is likely tied to federal health care spending cuts that will impact hospitals around the country.
- Renown Health announced plans to build a standalone children’s hospital in Reno, NV. The project, supported by a $40M philanthropic gift from Tom Golisano, will expand pediatric capacity in northern Nevada and represents one of the region’s most significant health care development initiatives.
- Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta announced plans to expand its footprint and services in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The health system is investing in land and other real estate assets so residents of Atlanta will be within a 30-minute drive of pediatric services.
- More than $500M in health care projects are underway across the Buffalo-Niagara region of New York, including a new $223M hospital being constructed by Kaleida Health, a $56M campus modernization project by Niagara Falls Medical Center, a $50M outpatient project by Erie County Medical Center, a $20M expansion of Roswell Park Cancer Center, along with several other hospital expansion projects designed to increase capacity and modernize health care infrastructure across Western New York.
- Novant Health paid $17M for several acres near its main Charlotte, NC, campus. Over the past few months, the health system has acquired a number of other properties in the area in connection with its long-term growth strategy.
- National Healthcare Properties has sold a portfolio of 30 medical outpatient buildings for approximately $198M. The portfolio includes assets across multiple states, highlighting continued investor demand for health care real estate despite broader capital market challenges.
- The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium is building an 80-bed skilled nursing facility adjacent to the Alaska Native Medical Center campus. The project is designed to address local post-acute care needs, improve patient throughput and expand the continuum of care available within the community.
- Ascension Wisconsin is exploring the conversion of its historic former St. Joseph Hospital building in Milwaukee, WI, into affordable housing. The adaptive reuse proposal would repurpose a large vacant health care facility while addressing local housing needs and preserving a significant community asset.
