About Carla

Carla Johnson is a health care real estate attorney who helps health systems and other organizations structure and execute complex real estate transactions that support growth, operations and long-term asset strategy.

With a background spanning private practice and in‑house real estate leadership, Carla advises owners and users of real estate on acquisitions, dispositions, development, and leasing matters across the country. Her practice is informed by hands‑on experience leading real estate initiatives for one of the largest health systems in the Midwest.

Carla’s practice includes:

• Advising integrated health systems, academic medical centers, and specialty care providers and other organizations on development projects, strategic leasing arrangements, and real estate acquisitions and dispositions;
• Structuring and negotiating transactions involving medical office buildings, health care campuses and large real estate portfolios;
• Counseling clients on operational and strategic considerations that impact real estate planning and asset management; and
• Guiding complex real estate transactions from concept through closing while aligning legal, operational and business objectives.

Before joining Hall Render, Carla served as Executive Director and Associate General Counsel for the corporate real estate department of Indiana’s largest health care system, where she supported the strategic execution of transactions and real estate operations for approximately 17 million square feet of owned and leased assets.

Outside of work, Carla serves on nonprofit boards, volunteers at her church, enjoys line dancing and hosting game nights with family and friends, and vacations anywhere with a beach and warm weather.
