About Emily
Emily Beukema is a health care operations attorney who advises hospitals, health systems and other health care organizations on data privacy and health information technology matters.
Emily works with clients navigating the evolving regulatory landscape governing health care and data privacy, including HIPAA, information blocking, and related laws. She focuses on practical solutions for compliant data collection, sharing and the use of artificial intelligence ("AI"), and has experience negotiating data use and health information sharing contracts while advising on regulatory risk and maintaining client data sharing strategy.
Emily’s practice includes:
- Advising on health information privacy and data sharing compliance;
- Negotiating health IT, software, SaaS and AI‑related agreements;
- Counseling on regulatory risk related to data collection and use; and
- Supporting electronic health record and health information exchange arrangements.
Drawing on a background in public health, Emily collaborates closely with legal, operational, cybersecurity and business teams to support innovative, technology‑based approaches to health care delivery. Outside of her practice, Emily enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, including her two Australian Shepherds.
