About Mark
Mark Swearingen is a health care privacy and cybersecurity attorney who advises a wide range of providers on data protection, regulatory compliance and breach response.
Having advised on health information privacy since the inception of HIPAA, he brings a knowledgeable, strategic approach to managing privacy risks, responding to incidents and adopting emerging technologies.
Mark’s practice includes:
- Counseling health care providers on data breach response, including ransomware incidents and cyber liability insurance assessment and analysis;
- Advising on health information privacy and security compliance under HIPAA, 42 C.F.R. Part 2 and state privacy laws;
- Negotiating resolutions of privacy and security investigations with state and federal regulators; and
- Providing guidance on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and website tracking tools.
Mark frequently speaks and writes on health care privacy and security issues and has served on the board of the Indiana Security and Privacy Network. Outside of his practice, Mark is an avid drummer and music enthusiast and lives in the country with his wife and three sons.
